About this policy
This Privacy Policy explains how RIDR collects, uses, shares, protects, retains and deletes information when you use the RIDR mobile application, website and related services.
By using RIDR, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Information you provide to RIDR
Account information
When you create or manage a RIDR account, we may receive information such as:
- Your name and email address
- Profile photograph
- Account identifier
- Username or display name
- Login and authentication information
- Profile preferences and information you voluntarily add to your profile
If you use a third-party sign-in method, such as Google Sign-In, RIDR receives only the account information authorised through that provider and permitted by you. RIDR does not receive your third-party account password.
Profile and community information
When you use profile, social or community features, you may choose to provide:
- Profile details, ride captions or descriptions, and photographs
- Follows, connections or riding groups
- Meetup or community participation
- Content visibility preferences
- Reports, feedback or interactions with other users
The information visible to other users depends on the feature you use and the privacy or sharing settings available to you.
Support communications
When you contact RIDR, we may receive:
- Your name and email address
- Information about your device or app version
- The contents of your message
- Screenshots or attachments you choose to submit
- Information needed to investigate and resolve your request
Please do not include passwords, one-time passwords, payment credentials or unnecessary sensitive information in a support request.
Ride and activity information
When you start or record a ride, RIDR may process information such as:
- Ride start and end time, duration and distance
- Route and current and historical location points
- Speed, average speed and checkpoints
- Ride status, photographs and notes
- Ride visibility settings
- Technical information needed to save and display the ride
This information is used to provide ride recording, route display, ride history, statistics, sharing and related RIDR features.
Location information
Location is a core part of RIDR's ride-tracking functionality.
Depending on the permissions you grant and the feature you use, RIDR may process:
- Approximate location
- Precise location
- Location while the app is visible
- Location while a ride continues in the background
Background location is used where required to continue a ride or another location-based feature that you have actively started. Location may be used to record an active route; calculate distance, duration and speed; show ride progress and completed routes; support Ride Together or similar rider-location features, where enabled; and show relevant nearby ride or meetup information, where enabled.
RIDR is designed to begin ride tracking after you deliberately start the relevant feature. You can stop active tracking by ending the ride or applicable location-based session. Restricting location access through device settings may prevent route recording or other location-dependent features from working correctly.
Where RIDR provides live or shared-location functionality, your location is shared according to the feature you select, the people or group you choose and the available visibility settings.
Device and technical information
RIDR may automatically process limited technical information needed to operate, secure and improve the service, including:
- Device type and model, operating system, app version and language settings
- Internet Protocol address and device or app identifiers
- Push-notification token
- Crash information and performance diagnostics
- Security and authentication logs
- Feature usage and interaction information
This information helps RIDR maintain reliability, investigate errors, protect accounts and understand how features perform.
Permissions
Depending on the features available in your version of RIDR, the app may request:
Location
Used for ride recording, route display, speed and distance calculations, and other location-based features.
Background location
Used to continue an active ride when RIDR is minimised or not currently visible.
Camera or photo library
Used when you choose to capture, upload or attach a profile picture, ride photograph, support screenshot or other image.
Notifications
Used to provide ride status updates, service messages, safety information, account notifications and other updates you choose to receive.
RIDR requests permissions in context and uses them for the purpose described when the permission is requested. Permissions can be managed through your device settings.
How RIDR uses information
RIDR uses information to:
- Create, manage and authenticate accounts
- Record and save rides and display routes, maps, history and statistics
- Provide rider, community and sharing features
- Deliver notifications you have enabled
- Respond to support requests and process safety reports
- Protect users and detect misuse, fraud or unauthorised access
- Diagnose problems and improve performance and usability
- Enforce RIDR's terms, standards and policies
- Comply with applicable legal obligations
RIDR limits the use of personal information to purposes connected with operating, protecting and improving the service.
Data security
RIDR uses reasonable administrative, technical and organisational measures designed to protect information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, loss or misuse. These may include encrypted network connections, access and authentication controls, restricted administrative access, secure infrastructure, logging, monitoring, updates, backups and review of reported security concerns.
No digital system can provide an absolute guarantee of security. Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their login methods and should notify RIDR if they believe their account has been accessed without permission.
Data retention and account deletion
RIDR retains information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain an account and selected ride history, complete support or safety reviews, maintain security, resolve disputes, enforce agreements and meet applicable legal requirements.
When an account is deleted, RIDR deletes or de-identifies associated personal information unless limited retention is required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution or another legitimate purpose. Information retained for those limited purposes is not used to provide ordinary RIDR features.
You can request account and data deletion in the RIDR app at Profile → Settings → Account → Delete Account. If you cannot access the app, email us from your registered address with the subject “RIDR Account Deletion Request.” RIDR may take reasonable steps to verify account ownership before completing the request.
Deleting the RIDR application from a device does not by itself delete your RIDR account. More instructions are available on the Support page.
Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on available features, you may:
- Update account and profile information
- Change ride visibility and control when a ride is shared
- End live-location sharing
- Manage followers or connections and block or report another user
- Delete individual ride records
- Manage notification preferences and revoke device permissions
- Request account deletion or contact RIDR about personal information
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request access, correction or deletion; withdraw consent; object to or restrict certain processing; request a portable copy of eligible information; or complain to an applicable data-protection authority. RIDR may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests.
Children's privacy
RIDR is intended for users who meet the minimum age requirements stated in RIDR's terms and applicable law. RIDR does not knowingly permit the platform to be used for child sexual abuse or exploitation.
RIDR maintains separate Child Safety Standards. A parent, guardian or authorised person who believes that a child's information has been submitted contrary to applicable requirements may contact RIDR. RIDR will review the request and take appropriate action.
International processing
RIDR and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country in which a user lives. Where applicable, RIDR uses appropriate contractual, technical and organisational safeguards for international data processing.
Third-party services and links
RIDR may contain maps, authentication services, links or integrations provided by third parties. A third party's handling of information is governed by its own terms and privacy practices when you directly interact with that service. RIDR encourages users to review relevant third-party privacy information.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
RIDR may update this policy to reflect changes to the application, technology, legal requirements or data practices. The updated version will be published here with a revised “Last updated” date. Where appropriate, RIDR may also provide an in-app notice of a material change.
